Traditional Japanese Handmade Practice Bridge for Tsugaru Shamisen (Practice Mutes)
We’ve tested quite a few ways to make shamisen practice quieter, and this has been one of the most effective solutions we’ve found.
The difference is immediately noticeable. It significantly reduces the volume while keeping the instrument comfortable and natural to play. If you live in an apartment or simply want to practice without worrying about disturbing others, this little accessory can make a huge difference.
One feature we especially appreciate is its two-stage volume adjustment. Depending on your environment, you can choose between a quiet setting or a moderate volume, giving you more flexibility for different practice situations.
It’s something we would genuinely recommend to our own students and use ourselves.
Handmade in Japan, each Shinobi Koma is individually crafted with great care.

Always loosen the strings before installing or removing the Shinobi Koma. Never attempt to install or remove it while the strings are under full tension.
Installation:
1. Loosen the strings and remove the neo (string holder).
2. Position the Shinobi Koma correctly beneath the strings, then reattach the neo.
3. Gradually tighten the strings until the bridge is securely in place.
Recommended Bridge Height:
For optimal performance, use with a bridge (koma) height of 9 mm or lower.
Two-stage Volume Adjustment:
The Koba-style Shinobi Koma features two selectable volume levels.
* Turn the adjustment screw fully counterclockwise (left) for the lower volume setting.
* Turn the adjustment screw fully clockwise (right) for the higher volume setting.
Turn the screw gently until it reaches its stop. Do not force it beyond its limit.
